Youth Internship Program

The internship program within the Certificate IV in Youth Ministry Leadership will give students with an opportunity to receive experience and training within their local church or approved ministry. The students will be supervised by experienced ministers who will develop and mentor them toward the skills required for youth ministry and leadership.

Students are required to complete a minimum of 8 hours internship a week for 39 weeks throughout the year. This is negotiated between the Intern coordinator, the student, and the student’s pastor.

The Aim of the Internship Programme is to:

  • Train and equip youth ministry leaders within the local church to reach a generation
  • Give students an opportunity to implement the principles they have learnt from their study of the word of God and the unit ‘Support and Lead Youth Ministry’.
  • Assist students in discovering their ‘giftings’ and to give them a thrust into reaching their full potential in ministry.
  • Develop skills in working within a team.
  • Experience firsthand what it is like to work within a ministry environment.
  • Develop character traits including being teachable, having an excellent, attitude, self motivation and self discipline, punctuality, reliability and faithfulness.
  • Develop an appreciation for servant hood and implement it in their lives.
  • Practice people skills in relation to others in the work place and the public.
  • Develop the skills and passion for outreach and evangelism along with a heart for ministry to others.
  • Present opportunities for leadership corresponding to the student’s maturity
  • Assist the student in their personal spiritual journey

Supervisor Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the student during the internship.
  • Be available to the Intern Coordinator to discuss the intern’s progress when required.
  • Provide orientation for the intern.
  • Guide and assist the student by meeting weekly with them to review their progress and complete the intern report.
  • Provide a suitable mentor (if the supervisor is unavailable) for the intern to meet with each week

Student Responsibilities:

  • Attend the agreed intern location for the hours required.
  • Observe the supervising ministries work practice requirements.
  • Report directly to their appointed supervisor at the commencement of their day.
  • Meet with their mentor at the appointed time each week (and at least fortnightly).

The 8 hours internship is to be accumulated over these days. This is negotiated between the Intern Co-coordinator, the student, and the student’s pastor.

Interns are required to attend the Bible School Camp and 3 Thursday / Friday guest Ministry events over the year.
